Kyle Cutler: The Spirit of APSA

The MSU-APSA Executive Board and the Membership Outreach Committee are pleased to announce that September’s Spirit of APSA Award winner is Kyle Cutler. Kyle, congratulations!

Kyle has worked in Advancement at MSU for just over four years and joined the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) as their Director of Corporate Relationships and Development in 2023. In this role, he’s charged with expanding industry partnerships on behalf of CANR, in addition to supervising between one and four CANR Advancement team members. As a leader, Kyle inspires excellence in his team members through his consistent fairness and gratitude for their efforts.

Kyle’s favorite thing about being a people-manager is helping his team members advance their unit’s shared goals while supporting their personal career development. He finds it rewarding to see how his team members grow personally and professionally – even when their growth leads them to find new opportunities.

We asked Kyle to share a piece of wisdom with other APSA members, and he offered the following: “Build a community of other MSU professionals around you. There are so many talented, experienced people in the MSU ecosystem to learn from and lean on. Get to know them based not only on their role and how they might interact with you and your team, but also as individuals.”

His nominator describes Kyle as a high-performing colleague with a gift for bringing all stakeholders to the table: he engages with everyone from dairy production workers and farm managers to MSU vice presidents to make sure that CANR’s fundraising projects are inclusive and well-developed. A trusted sounding-board for other supervisors, he brings much-appreciated humor to his work and appreciates MSU unions’ efforts to uphold the rights of its employees.
