Brian Wright, Research and Instructional Equipment Technologist II in the College of Engineering, is March’s Spirit of APSA Award recipient. The Spirit of APSA Award celebrates our union’s 40th year on MSU’s campus by recognizing one member each month who embodies the core values of our union: excellence, community spirit and solidarity.

Brian has worked for the university for nearly 37 years, spending over 35 years providing high-quality tech support for staff, faculty and students in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. His team maintains a wide variety of teaching and research equipment, and he has supervised both full-time and student employees in his time with the department. He considers mentoring colleagues and helping them to achieve their own professional successes to be a highlight of his work.

He advises other APSA supervisors to invest in the development and growth of their own team members: encourage continual learning, set clear expectations and listen in order to help each employee navigate the unique challenges of their roles.

Brian’s nominator praised his collaborative nature, his exemplary teamwork and his willingness to provide support and encouragement to other supervisors. He inspires others to attain higher levels of excellence in their own work, and in that way, he represents the spirit of APSA.

The APSA Executive Board and Member Outreach Committee congratulates Brian and thanks him for his many contributions. If you know another exceptional APSA member, you can nominate them for award consideration using this form.
